Artie Strikes again….
After a painful four days of rain, wind and snow we finally got a break in the weather. Monday morning was a good a turkey morning as one could ask for. Not a breath of wind, sunshine and turkeys gobbling in every direction.
As luck would have it Artie was back in camp and more importantly in the field with Red when dawn broke.
That “special” gift he gave Red in the field last time must have really stuck cause Red put Artie on a bird that would make anyone’s heart go pitter patter.
Congrats Artie!
First Time Spring Gobbler Hunting
Having never hunted turkeys before I jumped at the chance to spend a few days chasing these elusive birds with Red upstate. Man what fun ! The first two days were tough as the birds did not gobble much and the few that did would not commit to Reds seductive calls. Then on the 3rd day it all came together . We called a bird off the roost at first light and worked him in to shooting range . I thought I was going to have a heart attack watching him strutting his stuff 20 yards from us before I took him. Red was great teaching me all he could about the fine art of turkey hunting. I am hooked for life ! If you have never hunted turkeys before you have to try it. Its great fun ,fast moving and very very exciting. Of course hanging out with Red can be equally exciting at times and never boring.
Gobble Gobble!
