Spring has Sprung and the Gobblers are strutting….
We’ve made the trip back upstate for the opening of the Spring Turkey season.
So far so good. Friday afternoon and evening we began the scouting for Saturday morning’s “spot X”. We put three gobblers to bed, two long beards and a jake.
Saturday morning took Red and Artie back to “the spot”. We love it when a plan comes together…. By 8 am Artie had a long beard on the ground. A mature Gobbler weighing in at 18.5 pounds, 8 3/4 inch beard with 7/8 spurs. Red was happy and Artie so excited that Red got a very special Thank You! What happens in camp stays in camp….
Sunday the wind blew, and blew, and blew… Not much action to speak of.
Monday morning came and ended early with a happy hunter taking home a fine eating Jake.
Tuesday had the birds on the move and we just didn’t connect with the one we were looking for.
Wednesday was a huge success for one of our special friends. First time turkey hunter Joe R. connected with his first bird and a FINE Long Beard it was! A mature Gobbler weighing in at 18 pounds, 7 3/4 inch beard with 3/4 spurs.
